Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday!
Did you know that Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving? Black Friday and Cyber Monday may hog the limelight, but Giving Tuesday (November 29, 2016) kicks off the charitable season and is undeniably good for that inner glow. Today, focus on giving to the causes, programs, and institutions that strive to strengthen our communities.
Human trafficking is an egregious crime that impacts communities locally, nationally and across the world. Programs like STOP-IT attempt to eliminate human trafficking by raising awareness and by providing direct support to survivors. This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to join us in that effort.
Raise awareness about human trafficking: Have you been following our posts about human trafficking on Facebook and Instagram this month? Use the hashtag #humansagainstrafficking today (November 29th, 2016) to raise your own awareness based on what you have learned. Post a photo of yourself with a personal reflection for the questions, “What is human trafficking?”, “what does it look like?” and “how does it impact my community?” Link back to our campaign and garner vital support for the STOP-IT program on this day of global giving.
Donate to our programming: Help us continue to enhance services for survivors of human trafficking by making a donation. STOP-IT receives federal grants, which require a financial match from the grantee to accomplish the work of the program. These dollars go toward vital resources such as mental health services, medical bills, supplies for our drop-in, participant emergencies, and staff support. Join our team and fundraise for STOP-IT with your very own #RedKettleReason: http://give.salvationarmyusa.org/goto/stopit
Volunteer with us: Apply for our direct service or admin volunteer positions. STOP-IT operates a 24-hour crisis response hotline and a biweekly drop-in space for female-identified youth. Volunteers are critical in the support of this work. We also are in need of admin, social media management, and public awareness support. Find out how to volunteer with us, here: http://salarmychicago.org/stopit/how-to-help/volunteer/
No contribution of your time, resources or dollars is too small. Every penny counts. So give a little or a lot, but make Giving Tuesday count!
