One More Day Left in Red Kettle Campaign – Donate Today and Help Us Cross the Finish Line

One Day Left in Red Kettle CampaignWith just one more day left in the Red Kettle Campaign, we are in the home stretch and just 7% away from our campaign goal.  That means generous donors from Chicagoland, Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana have given more than $12 million toward the Red Kettle Campaign goal of $13 million.  This represents the second highest amount ever received here in the Metropolitan Division, the highest being last year, in which a record $12.8 million was raised.

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and the trust the public continues to place in The Salvation Army.  We are humbled by this outpouring of support, and now, more than ever, are acutely aware of our promise to do the most good for all who are in need.

Nationally, The Salvation Army has raised $147 million through the Red Kettle campaign, a new record.  While this reflects an increase of 3.4% over previous years, most Salvation Army locations continue to experience record need.  This represents a 3.4 percent increase from 2010, highlighting the support of American donors who gave generously despite a continued slow economy.

The Salvation Army receives nearly 70 percent of its annual donations during the Red Kettle Campaign, and these funds are used throughout the entire year by the Metropolitan Division to provide emergency and social services.

These funds are even more critical as the demand for our services continues to grow, while The Salvation Army and other social service agencies sustain drastic cuts in funding from traditional government sources for programs and services.

“The needs of families, children and people in need don’t end after Christmastime,” said Lt. Col. Ralph Bukiewicz, commander of the Metropolitan Division of The Salvation Army. “It’s the programs and services provided by The Salvation Army all year long – such as food, shelter, crisis assistance, child care, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, job training – that not only help families meet their most fundamental needs but also help them turn their lives around.  A gift to the Red Kettle Campaign can make a long-term impact and help families pull through the toughest times.”
